UPDATED: AGM: May 15th, 2019, 7pm, NDCC Community Room

posted Mar 31, 2019, 8:19 PM by ASC Ayr Skating Club   [ updated Apr 29, 2019, 8:26 PM ]

29-Apr-2019 Update: attached below the agenda for our 2019 AGM; nominated board of directors candidates are detailed in section 7.1. Also attached is last years AGM minutes which will formally be accepted at this year's AGM.  Finally, please note that the board is proposing to pass an extraordinary resolution related to auditing/reviews of financial statements; the details for this are outlined in section 9.0 of the agenda.  Minor amendments to the club by-laws are proposed, you can view the club constitution here: History, Board, and Constitution (the club constitution document is at the very bottom of that page and the proposed changes are detailed in Appendix 1 of the document)

Each spring we hold our AGM (Annual General Meeting) where we take stock of the past year and confirm the volunteer board members for next season.  All skating parents, adult skaters, and coaches are welcome to participate in the meeting, and we encourage you to join us, as you will learn a lot about the club and how we run it!

Our club is a non-profit organization solely run by volunteers.  This allows the club to simply cover costs, and pass on low skating fees to the skaters, which we know families appreciate.  What this means, however, is that we need volunteers to maintain this approach!  We are always looking for more volunteers to help with the club activities and spread the work across many hands.  If you are interested in learning more about the role, please feel free to contact us at, or reach out to any of the current board members.  If you or someone you know would like to join our board, you can nominate here: nominations must be received by 19-Apr-2019.

During the AGM, we will do a summary of our registrations, a financial report, summary of our fundraising activities, coaches summary, communications update (website), along with a review of the year by our president.  We will do a formal vote for the board at this meeting.  The meeting generally lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Please mark your calendars to attend the AGM - it will be Wednesday, May 15th, 2019 at 7 pm, in the Community Room at the NDCC arena.

Hope to see you there!  Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions.

Spotlight on Success - Sonia Kagolovskaya & Kieran MacDonald

posted Mar 9, 2019, 5:13 PM by ASC Ayr Skating Club   [ updated Mar 23, 2019, 3:04 PM ]

The Ayr Skating Club is proud to celebrate the tremendous success of two of our long standing members: Sonia Kagolovskaya & Kieran MacDonald

Sonia and Kieran are Ice Dancers. Ice dance is similar to pairs in that two people skate together, but, unlike pairs, ice dancers do not do jumps and do only certain kinds of lifts. Instead, ice dancers focus on creating footwork and body movements that express dance on ice.

The pair have been skating together since she was seven and he was nine and are coached by Carleigh MacDonald.  You can read more about Sonia (Sophia) and Kieran on their Skate Ontario profile page.

After Nationals, Sonia and Kieran became part of a team of 14 skaters chosen by Skate Canada to represent Canada internationally at the 2019 Bavarian Open Advanced Novice Ice Dance Championships. The competition took place on Feb 5-10 in Oberstdorf, Germany.  Sonia and Kieran once again placed first!

Check out the pictures and videos below for a closer look at Sonia and Kieran's artistry in action.  Also, be sure to join us for for our 2019 Showcase Gala on Sun, Mar. 31 @ 1:30pm to see Sonia and Kieran perform live!
