FAQ about this seminar

Q: How old do you need to be to do this seminar?

A: Skaters of all ages are welcome. Skaters often form ice dance partnerships as young as 6 and 8 years of age!

Q: Are Pairs and Ice Dance the same thing?

A: No - in pairs skating, skaters perform jumps, throws, twists, and overhead lifts. In Ice Dance, skaters do not perform any jumps. Ice Dance is dancing on ice - there are set pattern dances, as well as the free dance, where skaters perform elements such as spins, twizzles, step sequences, and lifts.

Q: Do you have any examples of Ice Dance?

A: Yes! Below we have links to Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir (Olympic Gold Medalists), as well as our own dance team, Sophia Kagolovskaya and Kieran MacDonald (2018 Pre-Novice National Silver Medalists) for you to watch to get an idea of what ice dance is like.

Centre for the Community Group grant

posted Jun 26, 2018, 9:16 PM by ASC Ayr Skating Club   [ updated Jun 26, 2018, 9:24 PM ]

The ASC sincerely thanks the Centre for the Community Group (http://www.ccgnd.ca) for their generous financial grant.

With this grant the ASC will be able to augment our 2018/2019 instructional programs with video analysis.  Video analysis is a teaching tool which enables coaches to record, review, break down, and compare their skaters' techniques as they learn.  The ASC is thrilled to be able to offer this teaching tool to our skaters.

Be sure to check out the Centre for the Community Group and the great work they do!

From the grant presentation on 25-Jun-2018:

The Centre for the Community Group (CCG) is pleased to announce the donation of $16,000 to local community groups in North Dumfries through its 2018 Grant Program.  Recipients of the donations are the following Non Profit Community Groups, Ayr Skating Club, Ayr Rockets Girls Hockey, Langs Farm, Ayr Minor Softball and the North Dumfries Skate Park Committee.

AGM: May 17th, 2018, NDCC Community Room 7 pm

posted Apr 17, 2018, 9:11 PM by ASC Ayr Skating Club   [ updated Apr 17, 2018, 9:11 PM ]

Each spring we hold our AGM (Annual General Meeting), where we take stock of the past year, as well as confirm the board members for the year coming forward.  All skating parents and coaches are welcome to participate in the meeting, and we encourage you to join us, as you will learn a lot about the club and how we run it!

Our club is a non-profit organization solely run by volunteers.  This allows the club to simply cover costs, and pass on low skating fees to the skaters, which we know families appreciate.  However, what this means is that we need volunteers to maintain this approach!  We are always looking for more volunteers to help with the club activities and spread the work across many hands.  This year we would like to have 2 or 3 new board members join the team.  If you are interested in learning more about the role, please feel free to contact us at info@ayrskatingclub.com, or reach out to any of the current board members.

During the AGM, we will do a summary of our registrations, a financial report, summary of our fundraising activities, coaches summary, communications update (website), along with a review of the year by our president.  We will do a formal vote for the board at this meeting, confirming which existing members will stay on the board, confirm anyone stepping down, and voting for new members to join.  The meeting generally lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Please mark your calendars to attend the AGM - it will be Thursday, May 17th, 2018 at 7 pm, in the Community Room at the NDCC arena.

Hope to see you there!  Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions.
