Mon. Dec. 17: Skate with Santa - Families Welcome!!

posted Dec 10, 2018, 5:14 AM by ASC Ayr Skating Club   [ updated Dec 10, 2018, 5:15 AM ]

The Ayr Skating Club invites all skaters and their families to join us for our annual Skate with Santa event on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018 from 5:20 - 6:10pm at the NDCC Arena.

Families are welcome to enjoy some free skate time on the ice with the skaters.

To avoid any last minute confusion or concerns please review our policy below, which is a Skate Canada requirement (and tied to our insurance policy).

  • No hockey sticks allowed on the ice
  • All participants must wear skates on the ice – no boots or shoes
  • Any participant who is not a registrant of Skate Canada must wear a CSA-approved hockey helmet, regardless of their skating ability.  This includes parents who wish to join their children on the ice.
We will have treats for the kids.

Come join us for the fun ... and, of course, an appearance by Santa himself!

Do you know a Sponsor who supports youth sport?

posted Dec 4, 2018, 8:32 PM by ASC Ayr Skating Club   [ updated Dec 4, 2018, 8:32 PM ]

As a not for profit organization the Ayr Skating Club relies heavily on the generosity of our many sponsors.  We depend on fundraising and sponsorship to keep our rates as low as possible, which ensures our programs are competitive, and affordable to families in our community.

Do you know an individual or corporation who might be willing to help support youth skating?  If yes, we've included a downloadable sponsorship letter below and would appreciate if you could pass this along to any prospective sponsors on behalf of the Ayr Skating Club.

Thank you in advance for your help!

FAQ about this seminar

Q: How old do you need to be to do this seminar?

A: Skaters of all ages are welcome. Skaters often form ice dance partnerships as young as 6 and 8 years of age!

Q: Are Pairs and Ice Dance the same thing?

A: No - in pairs skating, skaters perform jumps, throws, twists, and overhead lifts. In Ice Dance, skaters do not perform any jumps. Ice Dance is dancing on ice - there are set pattern dances, as well as the free dance, where skaters perform elements such as spins, twizzles, step sequences, and lifts.

Q: Do you have any examples of Ice Dance?

A: Yes! Below we have links to Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir (Olympic Gold Medalists), as well as our own dance team, Sophia Kagolovskaya and Kieran MacDonald (2018 Pre-Novice National Silver Medalists) for you to watch to get an idea of what ice dance is like.
